DSP Ferozabad suspended over torture allegations

Karachi (Web Desk): The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for Ferozabad, Yaqoob Jatt was suspended late Thursday night after allegations were made against him of torturing citizens.

The sources reported that Jatt was subsequently ordered to report to the City Police Officer (CPO).

As per earlier reports, three teenagers, accused of teasing girls in the Police Lines area, were said to have been tortured by police officials, following which their families staged a protest outside the police station.

One of the tortured teens claimed, “Police came and picked us from the house.”

He added, "All 15-20 men were in civilian clothing."

Speaking with reporters at the scene, the mother of one of the teenagers accused the police of brutality.

“I screamed and shouted when my son was taken away. I was pushed by the men.”

On the other hand, Dr. Samiullah Soomro, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for District East, explained that an investigation into the incident of alleged torture is now underway but the families of the beaten-up citizens are still protesting outside the Ferozabad police station.

Prior to that, Dr Rizwan, the Superintendent of Police (SP) for Jamshed Town, had sent a report of the incident to senior police officials, wherein he held Jatt responsible for the incident.

Thursday evening, Jatt admitted assaulting the young men after receiving reports that they had teased girls. “They were teasing our girls from Police Lines. I beat up a policeman’s son and two boys,” he commented.

Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for Sindh Mushtaq Mahar has appointed Sultan Khawaja, the Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) for East, as the investigation officer for this case.

Mahar had ordered a report to be submitted and action be taken against the policemen if they are found responsible for the torture.
