COVID-19: Pakistan reports 310 new cases, 10 deaths in last 24 hours 

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,292,047 on Wednesday after 310 new cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 479,664 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 444,320 in Punjab, 181,053 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 33,606 in Balochistan, 108,329 in Islamabad, 10,429 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 34,646 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 42,506 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 0.63%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 28,892 with 10 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,253,594 after another 296 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, at least 32 suspected cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 were reported in Balochistan's Kalat district on Tuesday during a vaccination and diagnostic process.

Covid cell in-charge Dr Naqeebullah Niazi said that the suspected Omicron cases emerged within two days.

As per the reports, Kalat District Health Officer (DHO) Nasrullah Lango also confirmed the number of suspected cases, saying that the samples taken from the suspected patients have been sent to the National Institute of Health (NIH) Islamabad for confirmation.

However, the NCOC has not yet confirmed any cases of the strain in the district.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 276.614 million and death toll tops 5,385,797.
