Karachi medical student killed in police, robbers' cross firing

Karachi (Staff Report): A female medical student was shot dead on Friday night during an exchange of fire between the police and suspected robbers in the North Karachi area.

According to police, 22-year-old Nimrah Baig got caught in an exchange of fire between the robbers and police when she was passing by the area.

Police officials stated that they were chasing a group of robbers, who were fleeing the area after looting, when they started firing at them at Anda Mor.

Police retaliated and Nimrah who was passing by from the area was shot in her head during the cross-fire. The medical student was rushed to Jinnah Hospital where she passed away.

Police claim that the girl was hit with a bullet fired by the robbers. However, her uncle has demanded a post-mortem and forensic exam to ascertain if the girl was killed by robbers or police.

Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Central Arif Rao assured that a thorough investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, the doctor who operated upon the girl said multiple exams such as X-ray and CT scan were performed on her but they could not find the bullet that damaged the bone of her skull and caused her death.
