International Day of Education observed

Islamabad (Web Desk): International Day of Education is being observed across the globe including Pakistan today (Wednesday).

The theme of this year is 'Learning for lasting peace'.

Educational institutions and organizations are organizing different events today to highlight the importance of the day.

Caretaker Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Madad Ali stressed pivotal role of quality skilled-based education for shaping bright future of country and encouraged youth to prepare themselves effectively to confront future challenges while serving nation with honesty.

Talking to a private news channel, he said, “Bringing children outside of schools into the educational system is need of hour to address poverty, health, social, and societal issues.”

“Pakistan is moving at a fast pace to develop the education infrastructure and policies at every level,” he said, adding that BISP like programs should introduce more to enrolled more students in schools.” 

The minister said that said here is also need for more train and skilled teachers and the caretaker government was taking steps practically

“It is imperative for us to transform our education system in accordance with the modern trends,” Sindhi said.

The education minister said that the caretaker government was working on comprehensive policies which will adopt keeping in view the human resource demand of country, region and other world nations.”

“Ministry with the coordination of relevant departments will utilize all existing infrastructure and enhancement of teachers’ capacity building, besides increasing the outreach of education,” Madad Ali Sindhi said.

He also expressed the hope that the upcoming government would focus and improve the skill development capacity of the people by taking different steps.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) proclaimed January 24 as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development.

Education is a human right, a public good and a public responsibility. Without inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong opportunities for all, countries will not succeed in achieving gender equality and breaking the cycle of poverty that is leaving millions of children, youth and adults behind.

According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), currently, 250 million children and youth are out of school, and 763 million adults are illiterate. Their right to education is being violated and it is unacceptable. It’s time to transform education.
