Pakistan's confirmed COVID-19 cases soar to 188,926

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan on Wednesday rose to 188,926 after 3,892 new virus cases surfaced in the country over the last twenty four hours.

Overall, 69,536 cases were reported in Punjab, 72,656 in Sindh, 23,388 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 9,634 in Balochistan, 11,483 in Islamabad, 1,337 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 892 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 3,755 with 60 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours while around 77,754 patients have fully recovered from the disease.

Nearly one-and-a-half months after imposing the lockdown across the country, the government announced to ease the lockdown in phases, however, the number of coronavirus cases has continued to soar.

Meanwhile, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Wednesday transported ninth tranche of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to doctors working in hospitals of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.

As per the NDMA's spokesman, the equipment include medical and face masks, surgical gowns, safety gloves, plastic boats, thermal guns, and safety goggles.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 9.2 million and death toll tops 478,000.
