11 died, few injured in Karachi shopping centre fire

Karachi: 11 people died and few got injured after a fire broke out in a shopping center located on Rashid Minhas Road in Karachi on Saturday. 
 
11 people have died due to suffocation and 20 feared dead amid fire while the condition of many people is reported critical. There are also reports of more people inside the building.
 
According to the fire brigade officials, the fire started due to the generator placed on the roof.
 
Rescue officials said that 46 people have been rescued from the building, while the injured were taken to the hospital in a state of unconsciousness, the condition of 6 people who were rescued and brought to the hospital is critical.
 
The Deputy Director of Emergency Department of Jinnah Hospital has said that 9 dead bodies have been brought to Jinnah Hospital who died due to burns while three bodies have been identified. Out of the three injured, the condition of two is better.
 
According to Jinnah Hospital officials, all the dead and injured are men, the ages of the dead and injured range from 22 to 43 years.
 
Fire brigade officials said that the fire has been brought under control and now the cooling process is going on. Fire and Rescue Commander Humayun Khan says that efforts were underway to extinguish the fire with the help of 6 vehicles and a snorkel.
 
Officials said that the fire was on the fourth floor of the building, which further spread to the fifth and sixth floors and there was more smoke on the upper floors. Dozens of shops have been burnt due to the fire.
