Pakistani athlete Haider Ali bags gold medal in Asian Para Games

Hangzhou (Web Desk): Haider Ali on Thursday won a gold medal for Pakistan in Discus Throw in the ongoing Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China.

Haider bagged the top prize with a throw of 51.23m in his fourth attempt. 

Japan’s Yamato Shimbo won silver with a throw of 49.70m, meanwhile China’s Zhang Xuelong throw of 48.26m helped him bag bronze.

All six throws by Haider were over the 39m mark today, as a result Pakistani star managed to secure his place in the Paris 2024 Paralympics after crossing the minimum entry standard of 39m.

It is important to mention that he also won Pakistan's first-ever gold medal at Tokyo 2020 Paralympics in Discus Throw.

He also won a silver and bronze medal in the Long Jump event during the 2008 and 2016 Paralympics, respectively.

Haider’s success is not just limited to Discus Throw, he has also won other medals in the Asian Para Games that include Javelin Throw, 100m and Long Jump. Haider has won overall six medals in Asiad.
