Pakistanis aged 40-49 to get Covid-19 vaccination from May 3 

Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistanis aged between 40 to 49 years will be vaccinated from May 3, National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) chief Asad Umar stated on Thursday.

The announcement came following a meeting of the NCOC headed by Asad Umar held in Islamabad on Thursday.

In view of the surge in global virus spread, the forum decided to curtail inbound passenger flights to Pakistan from May 5 to May 20.

These restrictions will be reviewed on May 18 and detailed instructions will be issued by Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

The forum reviewed production and supply of oxygen and decided to grant import permission of 6,000 metric tons of oxygen and 5,000 oxygen cylinders to ramp up health care facilities in the country. Import permissions of 20 cryogenic tanks was also granted.

The forum emphasised the need of "Stay Home, Stay Safe" strategy during Eid holidays.

In this regard comprehensive guidelines on closure of markets (with exemptions), ban on inter-city and intra city public transport and tourism have been issued to concerned ministries.

Meanwhile, in his post on Twitter, the minister said that Pakistan recorded over 100,000 vaccinations for a second successive day, adding that it was encouraging to see the pace of vaccine registration also picking up.

On Wednesday, Asad Umar tweeted that daily vaccinations crossed over 10,000 in a day for the first time.

The minister said that 117,852 people received vaccine on Tuesday, while a total of 2.1 million citizens have so far been vaccinated.
