COVID-19: Pakistan reports 659 new cases, 17 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,271,686 on Friday after 659 new cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 469,122 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 439,845 in Punjab, 177,807 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 33,228 in Balochistan, 106,835 in Islamabad 10,389 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 34,461 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 45,093 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 1.46%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 28,431 with 17 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,220,105 after another 931 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the Sindh government has said that that consent of parents is not required for the vaccination of students who are over 12 years old.

These directives were communicated to the Sindh education department secretary by the home department in a letter.

It has been sent to urgently convey the latest orders of the Sindh chief secretary to carry out COVID-19 vaccination of school-going children across the province.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 246.340 million and death toll tops 4,997,489.
