MQM-P's Farogh Naseem, Aminul Haque resign as federal ministers

Islamabad (Web Desk): Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan's (MQM-P) members Farogh Naseem and Syed Aminul Haque on Wednesday resigned from their posts as federal ministers.

According to details, Federal Law Minister Naseem and IT Minister Haque sent their resignations to Prime Minister Imran Khan, hours after MQM-P decided to side with the Oppositon’s in no-confidence motion against the premier.

Earlier, MQM-P leader Senator Faisal Subzwari said that an agreement between the party and the united opposition had been finalised.

“The PPP’s central executive committee and the MQM-P’s coordination committee will ratify the agreement,” he said in a tweet, adding that the details would be announced during a 4pm press conference on Wednesday.

Following the development, the government will lose the majority in the Lower House and the no-confidence motion against PM Imran Khan, on which the National Assembly is expected to vote on April 3, will likely be successful.

With 177 members, the Opposition now has more numbers in the National Assembly (NA) and they do not need the support of the disgruntled PTI MNAs. On the other hand, the government is left with the support of only 164 members of Parliament.

On Monday, the ruling PTI announced PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as its candidate for Punjab chief minister after incumbent Usman Buzdar presented his resignation to Prime Minister Imran Khan.
