COVID-19: Pakistan reports 7,048 new cases, 21 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,425,039 on Monday after  7,048 new cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 541,693 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 478,527 in Punjab, 194,166 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 34,390 in Balochistan, 127,497 in Islamabad, 10,651 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 38,115 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 61,077 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 11.53%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 29,269 with 21 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,291,725 after another 2,987 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, in a wake of eliminating coronavirus pandemic, more 4.7 million doses of Pfizer have reached Pakistan on Monday.

So far, United States has provided 4.74 crore doses to Pakistan.

Moreover, the highly transmissible Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the most common form of which is known as BA.1, now accounts for nearly all of the coronavirus infections globally, although dramatic surges in Covid cases have already peaked in some countries.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 375,302 million and death toll tops 5,681,885.
