Chiayi (Reuters): A parade of pole dancers on the back of jeeps blocked the streets in Chiayi, a city in southern Taiwan .

The celebrations were held for local politician Tung Hsiang, who died last month. They featured a procession of drummers, people in costumes representing deities and 50 pole dancers.

Dancers and strippers are a familiar sight at funerals in southern Taiwan , where it is customary to send the deceased off with pompous events. Tung's family organised the event to honour the politician who had been active in local politics for years.
