Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,039,695 on Monday after 4,858 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.
Overall 385,414 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 357,735 in Punjab, 144,848 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 30,502 in Balochistan, 88,093 in Islamabad, 8,212 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 24,891 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 56,414 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 8.61%.
According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 23,462 with 40 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.
Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 943,020 after another 1,361 virus recoveries were reported.
Meanwhile, the educational institutions across Punjab have been reopened from today (Monday) amid ongoing fourth wave of coronavirus.
Standard operating procedures (SOPs) have been implemented to avoid the spread of the infection. As per rules, only one student has been allowed to sit on one bench.
The teachers have also been directed to administer coronavirus vaccine.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Imran Khan advised Sindh government on Sunday to refrain from enforcing a lockdown in the province, saying hungry people cannot be forced to go under a complete lockdown.
"We can't enforce a lockdown on people who are hungry," the PM said while responding to a citizen’s call during a telethon.
It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 199.027 million and death toll tops 4,240,450.
