NDMA starts work on cleaning major storm-water drains in Karachi:

Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Monday started work on cleaning major storm-water drains in Karachi.

"The main objective behind this is to prevent further damage during the next few monsoon spells," said NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Muhammad Afzal while addressing a press conference here on Monday.

The chairman said due to prudent measures taken by the government the situation of Covid-19 has improved and the number of deaths have become lowest. The chairman also urged the people to follow standard operating procedure for containing the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said the government has added 3,000 oxygenated beds and sufficient quantity of ventilators were also in godown. NDMA has over 700,000 Personal Protective Equipment in stock. Some 141 laboratories have the facility of Covid-19 testing.

Earlier in the week, Prime Minister Imran Khan had directed the NDMA chairman to visit Karachi and begin cleaning up the city.
