'Govt committed to protect poorest from effects of difficult economic situation'

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said that protecting the poorest from the effects of difficult economic condition has been the priority of the incumbent coalition government from day one.

In a tweet, the premier welcomed Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz's announcement of providing free electricity to the households using up to 100 units per month.

PM Shehbaz expressed the commitment to extend more facilities to the people with improvement in economic situation.

Earlier on Monday, Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz announced that the provincial government will bear the expense of power tariff to households that consume up to 100 units of electricity in a month.

Addressing a press conference, he said that the Punjab government will bear the utility expenses of consumers who use up to 100 units of electricity a month for the past six months.

Hamza Shehbaz also announced that solar panels will be provided to needy people.

The Punjab CM said the provincial government has allocated Rs100 billion for the relief programme which will benefit nine million households.
