Putin says Russia and US must find ways to improve ties

Saint Petersburg (Web Desk): Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his desire to improve relations with the United States (US).

Speaking at the 24th Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), he said Russia and the US must try to find ways to mend their relations.

"We need to find ways to regularise these relations," he said, adding that bilateral ties are currently at a "low level".

President Putin said he will discuss the issues of strategic stability, international conflict settlement, cooperation against COVID-19, arms control, anti-terrorism and climate change with US President Joe Biden during their first summit meeting in Geneva on June 16.

The SPIEF, often referred to as Russian Davos, is the country's main showcase for investors and brings together business and political leaders.

The forum is one of the largest offline events held in Russia and the world since the outbreak of COVID-19, although the number of participants was restricted to 5,000, nearly four times less than when it was last held in 2019.
