SC orders formation of commission to probe APS Peshawar attack

Islamabad (Staff Report): The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday ordered the formation of a commission to probe the 2014 Army Public School attack.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar heard the suo motu case of the APS attack.

The commission will be formed by the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court (PHC) and will be led by a senior judge.

The SC directed that the commission will submit its report within six weeks.

Meanwhile, the chief justice directed that the commission along should meet the victims' relatives and address their concerns.

The chief justice had taken suo motu notice of the case during a trip to Peshawar earlier this year.

On December 16, 2014, terrorists attacked the APS in Peshwar. It was one of the deadliest attack in Pakistan’s history.

Later, the armed forces launched a grand operation against terrorist elements in Pakistan.

The incident shook the country and resulted in the formation of a National Action Plan to stem extremism and terrorism from the country, as well as the creation of military courts to try 'hardcore' terrorists.
