COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,502 new infections, 20 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 317,898 on Saturday after another 812 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 341,753 after 1,502 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country.

Overall, 148,922 cases were reported in Sindh, 106,208 in Punjab, 40,285 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 16,041 in Balochistan, 21,302 in Islamabad, 4,343 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 4,652 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 6,943 with 20 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) on Friday imposed new restrictions to curb Covid-19 spread.

As per an NCOC statement, the second phase of precautionary measures would be imposed in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Hyderabad, Gilgit, Muzzafarabad, Mirpur, Peshawar, Quetta, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur and Abbottabad from November 7, 2020.

Public and private offices are asked to ensure that fifty percent of their staff members work from home, it read.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 48.6 million and death toll tops 1.23 million.
