Islamabad (Web Desk): Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi on Thursday termed a notification of Finance division, circulating on social media regarding banning of Rs5000 currency note, as fake.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the said that the notification, circulating on social media, is fake and the government shall act against the people spreading this kind of fake news to create chaos.
Solangi’s statement came after the fake notification, purportedly issued by the Finance Division, surfaced on social media.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, through its fact-check handle, also dismissed the notification's authenticity, reaffirming its commitment to dispelling false information.
In a statement, the information ministry said that the ethical and legal implications of disseminating fake news, describing it as a disservice to the nation.
The government has urged citizens to reject irresponsible behavior and refrain from sharing false information.

It is pertinent to mention that spreading fake news is an offense under the Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Amendment Bill, 2023, which is punishable by a fine of Rs10 million.
