Rawalpindi: At least 20 convicts of May 9 riots released after a special pardon by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Asim Munir.

Attorney General Usman Awan in a report, submitted before the Supreme Court, stated that army chief allowed the release of 20 people who were sentenced to one year of imprisonment by the military courts.

They were released on April 6 and 7.

Among those freed, include eight residents of Rawalpindi, three from Lahore, five from Gujranwala, three from Dir, and one from Mardan.

AGP also mentioned that the army holds custody of over 100 accused, an increase from the previous count, and the court requested a comprehensive list of all accused.
