ISPR refutes 'baseless speculations' on COAS Asim Munir's US visit

Rawalpindi (Web Desk): The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday termed the speculations regarding Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir's visit to the United States of America (USA) as "baseless".

In a statement on Twitter, Director General (DG) ISPR Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that the COAS was on an official visit to UK from February 5 to February 10 in connection with 5th Pakistan-UK Stabilisation Conference.

He added that the conference was a “bi-annual event for military to military cooperation between the two countries”.

The DG ISPR said that Senior Pakistan military leadership has been participating in the event since 2016.

The statement by the military's media wing came after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Thursday was asked to comment on the army chief's speculated visit to the US.

During weekly briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, while responding a question, told the journalist that the ISPR could inform better on this matter.
