COVID-19: Pakistan reports 313 new cases, 9 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,288, 366 on Friday after 313 new cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 477,466 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 443,747 in Punjab, 180,564 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 33,522 in Balochistan, 108,042 in Islamabad, 10,425 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 34,600 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 42,978 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 0.72%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 28,812 with 9 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,250,069 after another 648 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Friday tweeted that certain features of Omicron suggest it could have a major impact on the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Even though we still need answers to some crucial questions, we are not defenceless against it. Don't wait until your hospitals start to fill up, it'll be too late. Act now,” the WHO chief added.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 268.769 million and death toll tops 5,303,574.
