Sheikh Rashid moves IHC for post-arrest bail

Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Friday approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for post-arrest bail in a case registered against him for levelling allegations against former president Asif Ali Zardari.

In the plea, the AML chief argued that cases are being registered against him as he “is the target of a political vendetta”.

On Thursday, a district and sessions court in Islamabad rejected post-arrest bail plea of Sheikh Rashid Ahmed in the case.

On February 7, a local court in Islamabad had ALSO rejected the bail plea of the AML chief.

Sheikh Rashid is currently in Murree police’s custody on a transitory remand in a case related to threatening police personnel.

Islamabad police had arrested Sheikh Rashid Ahmed in the early hours of Thursday on a police complaint filed by Raja Inayatur Rehman, the vice president of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Rawalpindi Division, wherein he said that the AML chief, in an interview with ARY’s Waseem Badami on Jan 27, alleged that Zardari recruited terrorists to plan Imran’s murder.
