Riyadh (Web Desk): Saudi Arabia and Iran have agreed to re-establish their diplomatic relations.
The official news agencies of both countries reported that the decision to this effect came following five days talks between senior Saudi and Iranian officials in Beijing that concluded on Friday.
In a joint statement, the two sides vowed to reopen their embassies and exchange ambassadors within a period of two months.
Both countries also agreed to respect each other's sovereignty and not interfere in each other's internal matters.
According to the joint statement, the foreign ministers of the two countries will meet soon to make arrangement for exchange of envoys and discuss means to enhance ties.
Riyadh and Tehran also agreed to activate the security cooperation agreement signed in 2001 and the trade, economy and investment agreement signed in 1998.
Both Saudi Arabia and Iran thanked the Chinese leadership and government for hosting and supporting the talks.
