COVID-19: Pakistan reports 3,480 new cases, 82 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 1,201,367 on Saturday after 3,480 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 443,521 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 411,808 in Punjab, 167,782 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 32,549 in Balochistan, 102,347 in Islamabad 10,150 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 33,210 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 63,181 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 5.50%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 26,662 with 82 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,082,988 after another 3,121 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday allowed entry for residents who have been fully vaccinated with a shot approved by the World Health Organisation could return as of September 12 from a list of previously suspended countries.

Countries from which residents can fly into the UAE from September 12 are: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Namibia, Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Liberia, South Africa, Nigeria and Afghanistan.

Approval must be sought from the UAE government to return, and various PCR tests must be taken, the UAE's National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority said in a tweet.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 224.676 million and death toll tops 4,631,266.
