Imran Khan leads PTI's election rally in Lahore

Lahore (Web Desk): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former premier Imran Khan on Monday left his Zaman Park residence to lead party's election rally in Lahore after the local administration granted permission for it.

The PTI had scheduled to take out rally on Sunday but the provincial government imposed Section 144 in the provincial capital on Saturday night citing a Pakistan Super League (PSL) match at the Qaddafi Stadium and a marathon race in the city.

However, in a notification the administration had allowed the PTI to take out the public rally on Monday (today) but mentioned that it would carry “high-security risk due to the general and specific threats against political gatherings and previous instance of attack on the ex-prime minister”.

As per the reports, the local administration allowed the PTI after the party leadership's promise of adhering to the government’s directives.

They submitted an affidavit, assuring the city’s administration of its full cooperation with them, the police and the security officials.

The PTI also assured the authority that it would comply with the concerned law about the usage of the sound system.

It was agreed that speeches against the state institutions and judiciary will not be allowed in the rally.

PTI chief Imran Khan set out in a bullet-proof vehicle from his Zaman Park residence leading the procession that will end at Data Darbar.

On the other hand, an Islamabad police team has also reached Lahore to arrest Khan in judge threatening case as former premier's plea seeking exemption from court appearance was rejected.

Meanwhile, a district and sessions court in Islamabad on Monday also restored PTI chief's non-bailable arrest warrant in the Toshakhana case.
