Islamabad (Agencies): The 72nd death anniversary of Pakistan's first Prime Minister Shaheed-e-Millat Khan Liaquat Ali Khan is being observed today (Monday).
President Dr Arif Alvi and Caraetaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar paid rich tribute to Quaid-e-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan on the solemn occasion of his death anniversary for his immense services to the nation.
In his message on the occasion, President Alvi said that this day reminds us Liaquat Ali Khan's unwavering commitment to the cause of Pakistan’s independence and well-being of its people.
"Liaquat Ali Khan's vision for a united, democratic, and progressive Pakistan is a beacon of light and source of inspiration for all of us," the president said.
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar also paid homage to the contributions and vision of Liaquat Ali Khan on his 72nd death anniversary.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he said Liaquat Ali Khan was the symbol of sacrifice, simplicity and decency who along with Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and others led the struggle for Pakistan.
Liaquat Ali Khan was born on October 1, 1895 into an aristocrat Nausherwani Muslim Marhal Jatt family in Karnal, Punjab Province, British India, which is now in the Indian state of Haryana.
The origin of his family is described as Punjabi, however his family had adopted the Urdu language, and he was a native Urdu speaker.
As one of the leading founding fathers of modern Pakistan, the sacrifices of Liaquat Ali Khan are not unknown.
He along with the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah struggled to obtain a separate land for the Muslims of the Sub-continent and later served as its first prime minister at critical juncture.
In his cabinet portfolio, Liaquat Ali Khan had also held positions including foreign,finance, defence, and the frontier regions minister.
On August 14, 1947, he became the first prime minister and the minister of defense of Pakistan.
Liaquat Ali Khan was assassinated on October 16, 1951 during a public gathering at Company Bagh in Rawalpindi which was later named after him as Liaquat Bagh.
He is buried at Mazar-e-Quaid’s compound in Karachi.
