Islamabad (Web Desk): World Food Day is being observed across the globe, including Pakistan today (Monday) to highlight the importance of safe, sufficient and secure food resources for everyday needs.

This year's theme of the Day is “Water is life, water is food; Leave no one behind".

In his message on the World Food Day, President Dr Arif Alvi has emphasized the importance of agriculture sector for ensuring food security and reducing poverty rate in Pakistan.

"The agriculture-led growth can significantly raise farm incomes, increase food productivity, lower food prices, and generate surpluses for exports," the president said.

The president said that agriculture will remain a key focus of the government to uplift the economy and bring real change in lives of the masses.

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FOA) was founded back in 1945.

Thirty-four years after that, in 1979, at the FAO Conference, World Food Day was officially accepted as a world holiday. Post that, more than 150 countries came together to accept World Food Day as a significant day for celebrations.
