Rawalpindi Commissioner resigns in protest over Feb 8 polls irregularities

Rawalpindi: Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Liaquat Ali Chatta resigned from his post in protest against electoral irregularities.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Chatta admitted “rigging” in Rawalpindi Division and took responsibility for it. He said the divisional administration converted the losers into winners with 50,000 votes margin.

“I admit injustice across the division during Feb 8 polls,” he claimed and surrendered himself before the police over the illegalities.

Chatta said there was “pressure” on him to the extent that he contemplated suicide today but then resolved to present matters before the public.
