COVID-19: Pakistan reports 4,340 new cases, 7 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,328,487 on Monday after 4,340 new cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 502,500 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 453,392 in Punjab, 182,311 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 33,705 in Balochistan, 111,376 in Islamabad, 10,445 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 34,758 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 49,809 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 8.71%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 29,019 with 7 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,263,486 after another 302 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the NCOC postponed the decision regarding the closure of educational institutions in the country once again on Monday as Omicron cases continue to spike in Pakistan, especially urban areas.

The meeting, attended by the federal and provincial education ministers, decided that the huddle will meet on Tuesday with fresh data to discuss the situation pertaining to educational institutions and the education sector.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 328.844 million and death toll tops 5,57,893.
