Lahore (Staff Report): The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday allowed Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) candidate Nasir Cheema who had used the pictures of the chief justice of Pakistan and the army chief in his campaign advertisements and posters to contest the July 25 elections.
Earlier this month, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had disqualified Cheema, contesting the 2018 election from PP-53 Gujranwala, for violating electoral rules.
Cheema had included pictures of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nasir and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on his election posters.
At an earlier hearing, Chief Election Commissioner Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza had asked Cheema why the army chief and chief justice’s pictures were on his election posters. “Are they your relatives?” the election commissioner had asked.
“What do the army chief and chief justice have to do with the elections?” he had asked the candidate.
