COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,119 new cases, 46 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 945,184 on Thursday after 1,119 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 329,947 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 344,512 in Punjab, 136,474 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 26,409 in Balochistan, 82,253 in Islamabad, 5,745 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 19,844 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per National Command and Operation (NCOC) data, 37,196 tests were conducted while positivity ratio remained 3.01%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 21,874 with 46 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 887,095 after another 4,763 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on behalf of Government of Pakistan has dispatched COVID-19 safety and treatment items to Afghanistan.

Addressing the ceremony held in this regard in Islamabad, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on National Health Services Dr Faisal Sultan said these items are being sent to Afghanistan for safety and treatment of the Afghan people.

He said global challenge of the Covid-19 pandemic could only be contained with international solidarity and cooperation.

The items sent to Afghanistan included 500 oxygen gas cylinders, oxygen concentrators, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ventilators, bipap, digital x-ray machines, Personal Protection Equipment kits, nasal cannulas and thermal guns.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 176.303 million and death toll tops 3.820 million.
