LHC grants bail to Khadija Shah in Jinnah House, Askari Tower attack cases

Lahore (Web Desk): The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday approved the bail of Khadija Shah, the granddaughter of former army chief Asif Nawaz Janjua and the daughter of former finance adviser Salman Shah, who was arrested in the May 9 incidents.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist and renowned designer Khadija Shah had filed bail application in the Askari Tower and Jinnah House arson case.

It should be remembered that Khadija Shah, the daughter of former Finance Advisor Salman Shah, was accused of calling people for arson and Jinnah House attack on May 9.

A two-member LHC bench headed by Justice Alia Neelam heard the bail application of Khadija Shah. The court reserved the verdict after the arguments of the lawyers, and later granted bail to the accused.

In previous hearings, Khadija's counsel had argued that the investigation in the cases had been completed and no substantial evidence was put on record to establish the guilt of the accused.

He requested the court to grant Khadija post-arrest bails in both the Askari Tower and Jinnah House Attack cases.

However, the special prosecutor contended that the police have obtained all the evidence against the accused and that she was involved in creating a law and order situation, spreading chaos, anarchy and attacking the Jinnah House.

He argued that the accused also chanted anti-state slogans. To this, Justice Aalia remarked that staging protests on a leader's call was our society's culture. "Stop monitoring things that put you people in trouble tomorrow so minutely," the judge remarked.

Meanwhile, the LHC bench also granted bail to three others accused of Jinnah House attack, including Fayyaz Ahmed, Ahmed Salim and Hafiz Osama, while the court disposed of the application of one accused Sufyan on the basis of withdrawal.
