Pakistan's COVID-19 death toll crosses 25,000 mark

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): Pakistan's COVID-19 death toll crossed the 25,000 mark on Monday, according to the data shared by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 1,127,584 after 3,772 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 420,955 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 380,844 in Punjab, 157,148 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 31,845 in Balochistan, 96,390 in Islamabad 9,656 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 30,746 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the NCOC data, 53,881 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 7%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 25,003 with 80 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,012,662 after another 3,107 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, China's health authority reported on Monday that there were no new locally transmitted cases of Covid-19 for the first time since July, offering more signs that the current outbreak which began late last month may be tapering off soon.

The latest outbreak was driven mainly by infections first detected on July 20 among a few airport workers in the eastern city of Nanjing who had been contracted to the highly transmissible Delta variant, first identified in India.

Since then, more than 1,200 people in China have been confirmed to be infected, though not all of them were cases of the Delta variant.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 212.605 million and death toll tops 4,444,769.
