COVID-19: Pakistan reports 2,756 new infections, 34 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 376,929 on Monday after 2,756 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 163,329 cases were reported in Sindh, 114,508 in Punjab, 44,599 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 16,810 in Balochistan, 27,018 in Islamabad, 4,542 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and  6,123 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 7,696 with 34 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 330,885 after another 1,057 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan urged the people to strictly follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent the spread of the second wave of the coronavirus in the country.

"This is the time again to remain careful as we did during the first wave in the first half of this year," he wrote in a message on Facebook.

The PM asked citizens to adhere to all the SOPs, including the use of face masks in public places and gatherings, as well as keeping a distance of six feet from each other.

Khan stated that using a face mask will help slow down the rate of the virus and ultimately control the pandemic.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 58.9 million and death toll tops 1.39 million.
