FM Qureshi, Tajik counterpart discuss evolving situation in Afghanistan

Dushanbe (Web Desk): Tajikistan has appreciated Pakistan's initiative of reaching out to the neighbours of Afghanistan for a coordinated approach.

According to details, the sentiments were expressed during a meeting between Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and his Tajik counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin in Dushanbe on Wednesday.

Both the foreign ministers reviewed the latest developments in Afghanistan and agreed to remain in close contact.

FM Qureshi apprised his Tajik counterpart of Pakistan's policy to support an inclusive political solution in Afghanistan. He expressed hope that Afghan leaders would achieve a workable solution.

He also underscored the importance of continued international engagement as shared responsibility.

FM Qureshi also called on President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe and discussed the latest situation in Afghanistan.

The foreign minister conveyed warm greetings from Prime Minister Imran Khan and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthen relations with Tajikistan in all areas of mutual interests.

President Emomali said he looked forward to receiving Prime Minister Imran Khan at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in September 2021 in Dushanbe.
