COVID-19: Pakistan reports 4,553 new cases, 85 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 1,140,411 on Thursday after 4,553 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 425,570 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 385,258 in Punjab, 158,964 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 32,014 in Balochistan, 97,542 in Islamabad 9,769 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 31,294 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 61,446 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 7.4%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 25,320 with 85 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,022,847 after another 3,413 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, who also heads the NCOC, stated on Thursday that getting vaccinated is the only way to control the outbreak of coronavirus.

He expressed concerns over the worsening situation of the virus in Pakistan and told that the number of patients suffering from oxygen shortage has escalated to 5600.

“The Indian coronavirus is rapidly spreading due to violation of standard operating procedures (SOPs), the minister added.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 214.772 million and death toll tops 4,477,249.
