COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,207 new cases, 14 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,507,657 on Saturday after 1,207 new cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 567,000 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 500,789 in Punjab, 215,936 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 35,322 in Balochistan, 134,240 in Islamabad, 11,461 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 42,909 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 53,625 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 2.25%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 30,153 with 14 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,440,292 after another 25,313 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has dramatically eased its COVID-19 guidelines for when Americans should wear masks indoors, including in schools, a move that means 72 per cent of the population will reside in communities where indoor face coverings are no longer recommended.

The CDC said universal school masking would now be advised only in communities with a “high” level of COVID-19. The earlier recommendation advised masking in schools no matter the level of Covid transmission.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 433,764 million and death toll tops 5,958,385.
