Mahershala Ali becomes first Muslim to receive Oscar

California, United States (Online): Mahershala Ali became the first Muslim actor to receive Oscar Award for Best Supporting Actor on Sunday night, as he was recognised for his stunning performance in ‘Moonlight’.

It turns out immense pleasure for the actor to become the first Muslim to receive such award amid Donald Trump's order for "extreme vetting" of Muslim immigrants and visitors.

Mahershala Ali’s pleasing speech didn’t make reference to his religion or Donald Trump, like he previously done during the awards season, when he won the Screen Actors Guild Awards’ for his marvelous Performance By A Male Actor in A Supporting Role for his role as Juan in the critically appraised ‘Moonlight.’

Ali thanked his teachers and professors during his emotional speech and shared with the audience some advice he received from them: “It’s not about you, it’s about these characters. You are a servant. You’re in service to these stories and these characters.”

He also thanked his wife, who just gave birth a few days before his Oscar win.
