Controversial tweets case: IHC reserves verdict on Azam Swati’s bail plea

Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday reserved its judgment on a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Azam Swati seeking post-arrest bail in controversial tweets about senior military officers.

Earlier, an Islamabad court dismisses PTI Senator Azam Swati’s bail petitions in controversial tweets.
Special Judge Central Azam Khan announced the verdict after hearing arguments from Special Prosecutor Raja Rizwan Abbasi, the government’s lawyer and Swati’s counsel, Sohail Khan Swati.

The court while dismissing the senator’s bail plea observed that the Swati had “committed the same offence twice”.
Last month, the Balochistan High Court (BHC), once again, ordered the dismissal of all the cases registered against Swati in the province regarding the controversial tweets.

According to details, Justice Abdul Majeed Baloch of the BHC issued the directives while hearing a petition related to new cases registered against the senator in Balochistan.

Three cases were registered against Swati in Winder, Bela and Chaman.

Swati was arrested on November 27 after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) booked him in Islamabad over the tweets against state institutions. It was the second time that Swati was booked and arrested by the FIA over his tweets about army officials in less than two months.
