IHC reserves decision over Sharif family's ECL petition

Islamabad (Staff Report): Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved its verdict regarding petitions seeking inclusion of the names of Sharif family including former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in the Exit Control List (ECL).

The single-judge bench of Justice Amir Farooq heard the petition today. The bench queried the petitioners about the law under which the government may be ordered to put members of Sharif family on ECL.

The petitioner pleaded the court to order the authorities to include the names of Sharif family members and others in the ECL

Replying to a question by the bench, the counsel said the concerned forum was approached but to no avail, adding the matter pertains to public interest and one of the accused has already gone abroad.

The petitioner said one of the accused is strolling on the London streets, adding Sharif family has a track record of fleeing from the country.

Later on, the court reserved its decision regarding the admissibility of the petition for hearing.
