Imran Khan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi indicted again in Cipher case

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and the party’s Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi were again indicted in the cipher case in Adial Jail on Wednesday.

Special court, established under the Official Secrets Act 2023, judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain framed charges against the PTI leaders.

Both politicians have pleaded not guilty to their involvement in the offence related to the alleged misuse of diplomatic cable for political purposes.

This was the second time that the PTI leaders were indicted.

On August 5, the former premier was convicted and sentenced to three years in prison in the Toshakhana case.

The IHC suspended his sentence on August 29 but he remained in jail because he was on judicial remand in the cipher case.

On September 30, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had submitted a challan, a charge sheet, in a special court established under the Official Secrets Act naming PTI Chaiman Imran Khan and vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi as the principal accused in the case.
