Five officials of Islamabad police suspend over raid at PTI leader’s house

Islamabad: The federal capital’s police on Sunday suspended five officers over a raid at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan’s house.

The spokesperson of Islamabad Police said an inquiry was conducted following the incident.

In a statement, the capital police said, the local police reached F-7/2 to apprehend a proclaimed offender on the tip of an informer.

When the police party came to know that the said house was the residence of Barrister Gohar, the raiding police party came back immediately, the statement added.

In response to the incident, IGP Islamabad Dr Akbar Naseer Khan instructed the DPO to appoint an inquiry officer and compile a detailed report within three days. Following these directives, SHO Margalla and the five officers were suspended pending the completion of the inquiry.

On Saturday, the Supreme Court took of the police raid on Khan’s residence while he was at the apex court for the hearing on the ECP’s petition against the restoration of the party’s electoral symbol.

The top court summoned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad to court after it heard of the raid.

Appearing before the three-member bench hearing the case, the IG said that the police were in search of some proclaimed offenders. He told the top court that it was officials of the Kohsar police station who carried out the raid, assuring the court that he would seek full information from them and inform the court.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa told the IG to provide full details to the SC. “Every citizen should be protected,” the CJP stated, further ordering the IG to visit the PTI chairman’s home on a priority basis.
