Clashes erupted after police detained JI leader

Karachi (Staff Report): Clashes erupted among Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) workers nd police after the law enforcement agencies arrested three members of the party following a sit-in on Sharea Faisal against K-Electric and the government.

Police arrested JI Karachi chapter Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman and three others near Karachi's Islamia Science College.

While addressing the media, before his arrest took place, Rehman said, "We will not give up our democratic right to protest.”  "We have directed our workers to continue with the protests in their area," he added.

The party had announced a campaign against KE by staging protests across the city, denouncing the ‘high tariff’ and ‘exorbitant billing’ being collected by the KE from the people for the past five years.
