Lack of resources ‘real cause’ of Hazara Express tragedy, says Khawaja Saad

Lahore: Railways and Aviation Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has termed a lack of resources as the “real cause” of Hazara Express tragedy.

“Yesterday, a very terrifying railway accident took place in which 30 precious lives were lost. This is a consequence of our lack of resources,” said Khawaja while speaking at an event on Monday.

Asserting that an investigation was under way and those responsible would be punished, he added, “But the real issue responsible for the incident is that we do not have resources. We are unable to maintain things.”
At least 30 people were killed and while 130 others were injured when ten bogies of Havelian-bound Hazara Express had derailed near Sarhari Railway Station in Sindh’s Sanghar district on Sunday.

Sarhari station master said that efforts to restore the up-country track were under way while the down-country track was already restored for trains this morning.

A total of 29 bodies were claimed and taken by the heirs while the bodies of two deceased women — who could not be identified — are still at the hospital.

The cause of the accident still remains unknown. However, the authorities said that a thorough investigation will be done into the matter.
