Babar Ghauri, Shamim Siddiqui leave Altaf-led MQM

Karachi (Staff Report): Former federal ministers and members of the London faction of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Babar Ghauri and Shamim Siddiqui on Sunday announced their resignation from the Altaf Hussain-led party.

Ghauri, currently, was associated with MQM London. He has remained federal minister for ports and shipping, as well as a lawmaker in the provincial and national assemblies, and the Senate.

The former federal minister has called his decision to quit the party purely personal, adding that he was not joining any other group or party, for now. He said that the mohajir community was facing difficult times and would need to unite face the challenges.

Shamim Siddiqui said his resignation came as a result of disagreements over the MQM-L policy following an incendiary speech by Altaf Hussain on August 22, 2016.
