Gaza: The UN’s special rapporteur Reem Alsalem said that the number of women and children killed in Israeli bombing in Gaza “has surpassed anything we have seen in recent conflicts”.

Speaking to Al Jazeera on violence against women and girls, Alsalem said people working on the ground in Gaza have “run out of words to describe the unspeakable level of suffering and horrors.”

“Within this hell, being a Palestinian woman or a child has really meant being stripped of any humanity, dignity, safety or any special considerations that would usually be given to women or children in times of peace or conflict,” she added and maintained almost 70% of those killed in Gaza since October 7th are women and children.

In Gaza, more than 16,000 people have reportedly been killed in just two months, including an average of 115 children per day, making this the deadliest conflict for children in current times.

According to CNN, nearly half of the air-to-ground munitions that Israel has used in Gaza have been unguided, otherwise known as “dumb bombs”.

The US news outlet said the assessment was compiled by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and described by three sources who have seen it.

About 40 to 45 per cent of the 29,000 air-to-ground munitions Israel has used have been unguided and the rest have been precision-guided munitions, the media outlet report added.

“Dumb bombs” do not contain a guidance system and they usually follow a ballistic trajectory or are dropped from aircraft.

US President Joe Biden, earlier this week, warned that Israel risks losing international support over its “indiscriminate bombing” of civilians.
