Murtaza Wahab elected Karachi’s mayor

Karachi (Staff Report/Agencies): Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Murtaza Wahab elected as Karachi’s mayor.

Election for the Karachi mayor and deputy mayor held at the Arts Council of Pakistan on Thursday.

The mayoral contest was between PPP’s Murtaza Wahab and Jamat-e-Islami’s (JI) Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman as all the other candidates had withdrawn their nomination papers. The respective deputy mayor candidates of the PPP and JI are Salman Abdullah Murad and Saifuddin.

According to the entry register 303 elected members reached the polling station. Three elected members were brought in an armoured personnel carrier. However, 33 were absent.

Wahab received 173 vote while Naeem Ur Rehman managed to secure 160 votes.
