Multan (Staff Report): An 18-year-old girl was strangled to death by her own brother over honour in Kacha Khuh village of Khanewal District.
The Kacha Khuh police stated that Muhammad Mudassir, 27, has been arrested and charged with murder.
According to details, Amna, a resident of Chak number 4, had eloped with Muhammad Yasin. The couple tied the knot in a court around two months ago.
The victim’s brother was very angry when he heard about their marriage four days later.
One week ago, Yasin’s family was told by Panchayat to marry off his 10-year-old sister to Mudassir as ‘vani’, a practice in which a woman is handed over or forcibly married to someone in return for the sins of her male relative(s).
However, Yasin’s father refused to give his daughter in ‘vani’ three days before the marriage.
Mudassir murdered his sister with an axe to avenge this ‘humiliation’.
The Kacha Khuh police has registered a case against him.
